It is always hard to say goodbye to summer. We love going to the beach, and wearing our Vadiar Designs Beach Wraps around our waists over our bikinis.

Since Vadiar Designs is about relaxing at the beach, how about this great, relaxing venue as a place to WEAR your Vadiar Designs beach wrap??? — An art gallery opening about HEAD RESTS (now, isn’t this truly a “bum around” topic??)
Seriously, all of the art gallery openings at the CANNON ART GALLERY in Carlsbad, CA are not to be missed. This new one, with an art opening reception on Sunday, Sept. 7th from 4 – 6 p.m. is a great place to see some fascinating art and BE SEEN (maybe wearing the Vadiar Designs Beach wrap featured below??)

TGIF – Friday Jazz in Carlsbad – (perfect Vadiar Wrap venue!)
Carlsbad, California hosts some of the best Friday night Jazz concerts (free) in the summer months….appropriately named “TGIF – Jazz in the Park” nights. I have been spotted there, wearing (of course) a Vadiar Wrap tied around my waist and over my white, summer capris – just a splash of color and fun to compliment such a fun event.
There aren’t many opportunities left to attend during summer 2008….so get on out there – and dance!

August 8 – Oliver Mtukudzi & Black Spirit Afro-Pop
Oliver Mtukudzi (“Tuku”) is the best-selling artist in Zimbabwe, with a powerful voice that echoes the great traditions of gospel and r&b. His original lyrics brim with a life-affirming sense of humor and optimism, while “Tuku Music” incorporates chimurenga, pop, South African mbaqanga, and the traditional kateke drumming of his clan, the Korekore.
August 15 – Luna Llena Cuban Salsa (see this link for a listen to Luna Llena! they are GREAT!)
Luna Llena specializes in a stylized salsa that takes listeners back in time to the flower-perfumed streets, starry nights and glittering dance clubs of Havana. August 22 – Steve Lucky & The Rhumba Bums featuring Carmen Getit Jump Jive/Swing
A huge hit from our 2005 season, Steve Lucky & The Rhumba Bums will cap off the 2008 TGIF concerts in grand style. It’ll be one big raucous evening of pure fun as pianist Steve Lucky, guitarist Carmen Getit and the sax, bass and drum-pounding Rhumba Bums put all their energies into their own special blend of swing, boogie woogie, and down-home r&b. Get ready to r-h-u-m-b-a.
Beach Rockin’ – Summer Sunday nights, Moonlight Beach
Always one to find a new beach outing, I can’t wait to wear my Vadiar Designs Beach wrap at Moonlight Beach, Encinitas, CA one of these summer Sunday nights for the Sunday Summer Concerts at the Beach. There are only a couple of them left — a great place to show up for some fun and fashion.

The 4 F’s of Picnic-ing…FOOD, FASHION, FRIENDS, FUN
Every Thursday, it seems, I begin thinking, in ernest, about my weekend plans and my weekend EATING plans. (I wouldn’t have to worry about this at all, of course, if I were to hand things over to Pamela Croft of Dinner at Home.) That said, I often turn to my trusty copy of Gourmet Magazine, which this month features some outstanding ideas for PICNICS (August 2008). I especially liked the idea of putting your picnic food in the handy-dandy jars they suggest on page 46 (“Picnic in the Glass”). Also, there are some great photos of picnic spreads on p. 88. I paid attention to the recipe for Zucchini Carpaccio as I am a huge zucchini fan.
But a great picnic isn’t just about the FOOD, after all….it is also about the Fashion, the Friends, and the FUN.

SUMMER SLUMMING – Food/Picnics – wear your Vadiar Designs beach wrap at your next beach picnic
You know, summertime is all about being lazy…..but we want to look GOOD, ya know, while slumming. Vadiar Designs beach wraps (which as you know, by now, are worn at the beach or just for a beach-chee feeling, or beachy mood, or beachy LOOKafterall…..ya know what I’m talkin’ about?)
So – to get with the whole BEACH FLAVOR (and I DO mean flavor…..) ya gotta do the picnic thing and have some really good food. Which brings me to the whole reason for THIS POST – to introduce you to yet ANOTHER friend of Vadiar Designs. These are very generous and wonderful people, you know…..this generous and wonderful person happens to know about FOOD- please meet (drum roll please)….….. Pamela Croft of Dinner at Home. Now, dinner at home is one thing… (you could wear one of those Vadiar Wraps in a very special way, ladies… do I need to elaborate on this?) and then dinner at the beach is yet another thing…..
Pam has been wonderful to provide all of us with a great recipe from her vast store-house of cooking knowledge for not only dinner at home but also food away from home…such as picnic food. Thank you, Pam. Please note the photo of Pam, but also (ahem…..) Pam’s CLONE – Chef Pamela sock monkey. (You likely saw the similarities – the red hair, chef’s apron….and also the similarities to the other friends of Vadiar Designs…..BIG APPLE MONKEYS … you should let me know if you want one, too, and they can be custom made to be your clone! Wow!)

Del Mar Torrey Pines Beach
Citrus Shrimp Cocktail
Combine:
1 cup each of cucumber, red onions and celery, thinly sliced
½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
½ cup each of fresh orange, lemon and lime juice
1 navel orange, peeled and sliced
2 t. fresh ginger minced
1 lb. cooked and chilled Shrimp, Shell off Tail on
½ cup mayo or sour cream
2 T. sweet chili sauce
1 t. lime zest
salt and pepper to taste
Serve over shredded lettuce in martini glasses, clear plastic cups or Chinese takeout containers. Serves 6

WHAT is a “Brat Stap”?? (p.s. more fun & sassy friends of Vadiar Designs!)
I got home the other day and told my husband I had bought a “brat strap.” He said, “what do you need one of THOSE for…..aren’t they the long straps that keep bratty kids in tow??”
Just to be sure you know exactly what these creations are, they are decidedly NOT for kids! They are, in fact, a bit provocative and definitely fun and sassy – and pack a powerful fashion punch. Now seen on the scene in Santa Monica, CA and other great coastal communities, brat straps are the genius creation of Thalia Poulos of Carlsbad, CA and Efthalia Designs.
Wow - pair up a Brat Strap with a Vadiar Designs beach wrap
They are a great new way of wearing your jewelry on your back (not just on your “front”). Brat straps fasten on to your cami top, bathing suit back straps, or brassierre straps on your back side, are made of lace (sort of look like a wedding – lace garter — only a flat one) and have a wonderful jewelry piece attached to the center. There is a brat strap for cat lovers, for example, with a cute cat charm hanging on for dear life in the middle of the lacy strap. There are hearts, initials, etc. charms attached to pink, white or dramatic black lace brat straps.
Now these are not the right fashion statement for everyone, mind you, but then again….why not? Wear one coupled up with your Vadiar Designs beach wrap and make a double whammy fashion statement. Wow! Have fun at the beach and at the beach fashion scene.
Del Mar Fashion Parade Day – Hats & Vadiar Designs wraps!
It is the opening day of the Del Mar Race track and the opening day HATS CONTEST. Lots of fashion on the Southern CA coast! That’s just for openers, of course. There is lots of time to go to the races — and you might swing one of those cute Vadiar Designs wraps around your hips OR around your shoulders….I haven’t tried it, but maybe you could fold one into a long scarf and tie it around the brim of your hat, ladies!

There are so many beautiful beaches in the world…..I wonder where to wear my beautiful Vadiar Designs beach wrap???
I couldn’t resist this wonderful idea…..wearing my Vadiar beach wrap at Cap Ferrat Beach in Brazil…now don’t you agree that these beautiful women might want a cover-up later on? No? Well, maybe not (!) but it is a thought for later in the day or for a great change of pace!
Carlsbad State Beach is beautiful, too, with lots of sun right now….summer….but wonderful year round, and you can buy your Vadiar Designs wrap nearby at Sanctum in Encinitas!
